2017 has been a steady year for hiring across the Human Resources sector. With companies looking to grow their presence in the Malaysian market, businesses were committed to bringing in HR professionals with more strategic experience to act as business partners and advisors to senior management teams. In order to increase productivity and reduce cost, companies were also looking to hire HR specialists in areas such as learning and development to further upskill their current employees.
As more brands entered the Malaysian market, candidates with talent acquisition experience were highly sought after to help support businesses in their recruitment activities and spearhead talent acquisition projects.
Overall, finding candidates from a HR Generalist background was not difficult and there was a readily available pool of strong local talent. However, as organizations increased in size and grew out their HR teams, finding candidates with a specialist background i.e. L&D, OD or training proved more challenging. Candidates within the space where generally open to making a move, though there was increased focus on seeking opportunities that could provide work life balance on top of traditional factors like salary and benefits.
We expect hiring activities to remain consistent for the remainder of the year.
