Compared to previous years, 2017 has been slower in hiring across the sales & marketing sector. eCommerce and digital positions continue to lead the way in terms of volume and naturally the demand for such professionals was high. Despite the retail industry facing pressure due to low consumer confidence, more brands were looking to expand their presence in Malaysia as the economy gained momentum and this resulted in candidates with backgrounds in retail operations and marketing being sought after to help retailers gain market share and remain cost efficient. We also saw an increased demand for CRM candidates as companies aimed to retain and attract their target market and VIPs.
The FMCG space remained largely stagnant and continued to see companies downsize their sales & marketing teams, leading to a decrease in demand for these candidates.
With the Sales & Marketing space getting more competitive in Malaysia, we expect the hiring activities to remain steady for the remainder of the year.
